Jobs Your Mother Never Wanted You to Have
This is a phenomenal book! I bought this around 2005 and I discovered it in Loompanics Unlimited Catalog, which was one of the best catalog's for finding books that were banned, obscure and super hard to find. Sadly, the company is no longer in business, but you can still get your hands on this book online.
This book opened my eyes to all kinds of job opportunities that many of us overlook or do not even know exist.
We are so programmed from high school, all the way to college to take on a certain career, and most end up going back to college to get a different degree, because they could not stand the career choice they originally made. There is more to life than being an accountant, a lawyer, a doctor, or a teacher. If you love those areas, then that's awesome, but if you want something that is odd and out of the ordinary, then this book is for you. Don't just settle for where you are working at right now. Think about this, you deserve what you settle for. Those words really stung, when I first heard them, but they are so spot on!
101 Weird Ways to Make Money: Cricket Farming, Repossessing Cars, and Other Jobs With Big Upside and Not Much Competition
Another gem of a book is this one! There's good money in repossessing cars, but not just cars, you can do boats! My friend did repossessions and he said it was dangerous, but if you need to make quite a bit of money, you gotta do, what you gotta do.
Surprisingly, cricket farming and maggot farming are not only real, but there are folks online making decent money. In fact, they are making enough to live off.
I researched the cricket farming and selling crickets online, and one guys is doing over $2,000 a month selling them to Gecko owners online. Another guy I know of is making $100.00 a week selling maggots by the pound. There is money to be made out there if you have the right information. Here's what's really interesting about cricket farming and maggot farming...it's not that hard to do!
The $100 Startup: Reinvent the Way You Make a Living, Do What You Love, and Create a New Future
This is a good book to start out with and get your feet wet as one who wants to work for themselves. He has a bunch of unique business models, that might just be what you are looking for. Of course, he has some who do not find his books so helpful, but it all depends on what your situation is and what you're willing to do.
This is not a "Get Rich Quick" kind of book. He gives you real world examples and ideas to get started. He encourages you to look at your current skill sets and to examine particular areas of your life that may be money makers.
Keep in mind, books like this get you to look into areas of your life, that you probably never would. Many of us go through life, hopping from job to job, and hoping that one job will be a winner. The truth is, if you want to really work for yourself, you've got to know yourself, know your deepest wants, your talents and whats available in the area you live. Many different variables need to be taken into a account.
100 Side Hustles: Unexpected Ideas for Making Extra Money Without Quitting Your Day Job
Here's a book I highly recommend to buy or give as a gift. In this book he talks to regular folks who start up side businesses that are interesting, odd, fun, and make good money. This book will help spark some ideas, that almost anyone can do.
If you are sick and tired of trying to figure out a way to make money doing a side job, then you have to check this book out. One job is being an urban tour guide and another is being an ice pop maker.
You know there is something out there in this world for you, but you don't know where to begin. Countless numbers of people go through this, and instead of being stuck, like so many others, you can make a choice to get unstuck. How many people really want to work at the job they have currently, for the rest of their lives? Why do they stay? They get comfortable, but comfortable, will not help get rid of debt, depression, dissatisfaction, and crazy bills that never seem to end.
Odd Jobs: One Man's Life Working Every Gig He Could Find, from Bathroom Attendant to Bikini Model
This guy has one cool looking book cover. When you see toilet paper on a book cover, that's a good sign. Jonathan Krieger's book might be able to help you or someone you care about, jump out of the rat race.
I'm talking about people who got their bachelors degree and they are working for some big corporations, and they are so depressed, that they can barely get out of bed in the morning.
I know what it's like to work at a corporate job, and I worked at another job in a call center for 6 years. That's 6 years of my time flushed right down the toilet, but live and learn...right?
Jonathan Krieger did all kinds of odd jobs and that's what I admire about him. I've done odd jobs as well, and I had more fun at those jobs, then the jobs I had to take out of desperation. It's a sad state of affairs when you are taught to work for someone else, and smile as you take a small paycheck. Does that make sense? Of course not! Millions have stopped questioning, and millions more have bought into whatever their teachers told them in college. I say THINK FOR YOURSELF, and discover that there is ANOTHER WAY!
Odd Jobs: How to Have Fun and Make Money in a Bad Economy
Here's another wonderful book to add to your collection of working for yourself books! All of the books on this page, that I've talked about have all kinds of different odd jobs you can try out or you can do as a career.
Just think, you can be a beekeeper and I have known people in my area of the country who raise bee's and sell the honey. It's not that hard to do, it just takes the right information and willingness.
Believe or not, the people that I know, who are beekeepers, make extra money every month, and they have been doing it for years.
Look around your area, and you'll find people doing odd jobs. You have to be courageous to step out on your own and try something you've never done before, but what do you have to lose? Are you going to go through your whole life wondering if it would have worked? Are you going to be satisfied living like that, until the very end? Quit trying to please everyone else, and do what you want to do for you!
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Making Money with Craigslist by Skip Press
I have personally used Craigslist and it does work, but you have to learn some things first before you go diving in, and that's where this book comes into play. Get this book for yourself or give it as gift to someone you know that could really use it.
My neighbor was buying and selling on Craigslist almost every day of the week. I'd go over to his house and he would be on the computer with a cigarette in his mouth and smile on his face.
Next thing I knew, his phone was ringing, and it was someone, who saw his Craigslist ad wanting to know how much he wanted for his item. Now my neighbor was in the car business and the scrap metal business as a side hustle, which I thought was really cool. He knew how to make good money on Craigslist. In fact, he taught me a thing or two, and there is a goldmine on Craigslist, if you get the right information on how to get started and then TAKE ACTION!
