When I was a kid my mom bought me some coloring books with animals in them and I also remember going over to a girls house and coloring with her. It was a quiet fun time, and my memories even today are fond ones.
As an adult, I've noticed the interest in adult coloring books online. What excites me is the weird and strange variety of coloring books I've been finding. I dare say, hunting for coloring books online makes me feel like a kid again.
I would encourage any adult who needs to chill out to get into adult coloring books. What is the worst that can happen? You might even like it. I remember working at a job where everyone sat in high wall cubicles. They were not the low wall ones like you see today, where you can see the other employees.
Anyways, two girls who were around 20 years old and super attractive were coloring Barbie books. I was a little surprised when I saw them smiling, coloring, and momentarily escaping the job hell of sitting in a cubicle. The job was a mind-numbing dead end, and we all knew it. Most of us were constantly job hunting and getting drunk 3 days a week, just to cope with the long hours and low pay. I asked the one girl if she was having a good time with her little Barbie coloring book, and she just looked up at me and gave me a big grin. On a side note, whoever that girl married is a lucky man. All you got to do is keep buying her coloring books! Oh well, I could have been that man :(
Another time, years ago, that I'm reminded of coloring books in the workplace, was when I worked in an assisted living home. This was a facility were I would watch over folks who were dealing with mental illness and we would have coloring time. This was not my idea, but the idea of the person who managed the game and recreation hour. Everyone who was under adult care, really enjoyed coloring animal books, which were and I bet still are a BIG hit.
As I looked into how coloring books are being used today, I kept finding information on coloring therapy for adults and the psychological benefits of coloring. It all seems to be meditative. In fact, it is relaxing to color and it totally makes sense that it would be an effective stress reliever. Coloring really does have a soothing effect on a human being, and therefore maybe useful in temporarily getting rid of negative thoughts.
One thing many overlook and you probably won't hear anyone talking about is creating your own coloring books and selling them on Amazon. What a great idea...right? If you are an artist, you really need to look into the adult coloring book market, because it could be a very lucrative move for you. If you are a starving artist, this might be the change you've been looking for and you'll be shocked at which adult coloring books are BEST SELLERS on Amazon. It's freaking insane but it's also brilliant! In fact, I'm seriously considering creating and selling some adult coloring books myself. So many opportunities and so little time!
So now that we know how beneficial coloring can be, it's imperative to find that one color book that will turn you on and get you excited. What are you looking for in a coloring book? Are you looking for some coloring books that bring you nostalgia from the 80s or 90s? Look on Amazon and Etsy and you'll find some real gems! Some of the stuff I've found on Etsy is not only edgy, but it's stuff I might find down in a dark alley somewhere in the seedy parts of New York City. The kind or area you might not come back alive. And do I have a problem with that? Nope!
Personally, I like the people of Walmart.com Adult Coloring Book: Rolling Back Dignity (OFFICIAL People of Walmart Coloring Books) by Andrew Kipple, and wonderfully illustrated by Davor Ratkovic. The People of Walmart coloring book will change your life forever. You'll be laughing as you color page after wild and crazy page of the folks from Walmart. Just think, you've got a combination of relaxation through coloring and the stress relief that comes from laughing, as you're coloring. I can't remember where I heard it from, but one person said you can't be angry and laugh at the same time. Sounds good to me! And my big WTF moment with coloring books came from discovering "Snake Eyes: A Nicolas Cage Activity Book" and now I'm hooked! Ha ha!
Oh and I did not want to forget this other coloring book called "Awkward Family Photos: An Adult Coloring Book For Anyone With A Colorful Family". This one is super funny, super AWKWARD, and it's a real winner, that will make you want to eat a chicken dinner.
You can give this one as a gift or The People of Walmart coloring book as gift to people you really care about and want to be happy. In this mad crazed world, giving someone an Adult coloring book might just save their life.
