When I was growing up in the 1980s, I heard people say not to do anything on Friday The 13th or if something terrible happened, a person would say, "It's Friday The 13th, and that's why this bad thing happened".
I always wondered where in the world this widespread superstition came from. If you research this you may find that it's historical events from the Bible and age old myths.
As a matter of fact, Bible Scholars say there is possible evidence to show that all kinds of dastardly deeds happened on Friday The 13th. For instance, The temple of King Solomon was annihilated on a Friday, Eve tempted Adam on a Friday, and so on.
Do I believe these claims? To me they are beliefs and superstitions, that have been told for thousands of years, so for me the jury is still out.
Scholars have also said, Christ died on a Friday, and you've got other cultures who will not gather in numbers of 13. Even Loki, the cool fun one from The Avengers, who caused all kinds of trouble is said to have been the 13th god!
If you stay in a hospital or a hotel, check and see if it has a room 13 or if you are riding an elevator, see if there is a 13th floor. Incredibly, there are thousands of places that do not have a 13 anything. This belief has spread so far and wide, that it has affected building structures.
But you don't hear too many people talking about the number 13. So many want to avoid it, but isn't it just a belief? Isn't it just a superstition. What proof is there, that it's real, other then a bunch of fear mongers of the past.
Ask yourself this: Do you really need to throw some salt over your shoulder?
As a teenager, I found The Friday 13th movies to be gory entertainment, and back then it was fun. I even bought the Fangoria magazine back in the 80s from the local grocery store, that featured the kills in the movie.
When Jason Voorhees tells a joke.... it kills! Ha ha!
I realize that countless people look at those slasher movies as mindless fecal matter, that isn't worth the time of day, but yet, is not life both brutal and beautiful. We live in a world where anything can happen.
Rapes, murders, shootings all happen. Whether we like it or not, there is carnage. There is war. There are those who hate and hurt others for no other reason, than to see them hurt.
Interestingly, one historical event sticks out like a sore thumb, and that was Friday, October, 13th, 1307. Oh what a dreadful day that was historically speaking, and it has been haunting us all ever since. How? The story of how Friday The 13th is evil, has been passed from one person to another, always warning the other to be careful, because it's the 13th.
Thanks to good old King Philip The IV (the 4th), who had the Knights Templar arrested, we have this superstition today. In fact, many were afflicted and burned at the stake for being blasphemers. Therefore, this gruesome day was known as an evil day, it was known as Friday The 13th.
Truth be told, I have no idea if any of this is true. Only you can research it for yourself, but since none of us were there, we all have to go by the stories passed on to us. Really nice...right? In other words, take everything that is passed onto to you with a grain of salt!
I say don't let Friday The 13th spook you out. In fact, give the gift of a "Friday The 13th Jason Mask and Machetti Charm Necklace" to someone you care about today. It looks fantastic and shows the person who wears it to not run from their fears. Instead, they can wear them or at least a symbol of them, around their neck, and that's always better than a noose.
Why don't most Americans worry about Friday the 13th? After losing their home, job, and 401k nothing scares them anymore!
